NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — As of Tuesday night, five of the 10 escapees from the May 16 jailbreak at the Orleans Parish Jail remained on the loose. WGNO is featuring them in its latest Wheel of Justice report while including more information on the current charges they face, and in some cases, charges they've faced in the past.
Not only does 31-year-old Leo Tate currently face drug, burglary and car theft charges, in 2021 he was accused of murder and attempted murder, although the charges were dropped.
27-year-old Derrick Groves is facing a life sentence after his conviction on second-degree murder and attempted murder charges.
32-year-old Antoine Massey is accused of domestic abuse involving strangulation and theft of a motor vehicle. In 2022, prosecutors dropped a theft charge against him, and in 2009 they dropped an attempted escape charge following his armed robbery guilty plea that same year.
26-year-old Lenton Vanburen is accused of second-degree murder. In October of 2022, he pleaded guilty to battery. He is scheduled for a mental competency hearing on May 29 in connection with the current murder charge he faces.
Finally, 42-year-old Jermain Donald also faces a second-degree murder charge. In 2018, prosecutors dropped a charge against him of battery on a police officer. He also has prior convictions on drug and battery charges.
If you can help locate any of the remaining escapees, there's a $20,000 reward for each one. But to collect the entire amount, you must reach out to Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111 for the first $10,000, and the FBI at 800-CALL-FBI (225-5324) to collect the other $10,000.
