NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — WGNO News uncovered new details in the theft of a Baphomet statue from a home in the Lower Garden District. The case is the latest one to roll on the Wheel of Justice.
According to the NOPD, the crime happened on March 5 in the 1200 block of Coliseum Street. Police say someone stole a box from the front porch of a home. Inside the box was a statue of the Baphomet, a figure connected to satanic rituals. Police released a security camera image of a suspect as well as a photo of the statue.
The owner of the statue says that the thief was riding a bicycle. She says the statue is about a foot tall and made of solid brass, with a value of more than $1,000. She also says it has a broken horn, so she was shipping it to be repaired. She says she placed the box on her porch to be picked up and shipped, and that's when the thief struck.
