NEW ORLEANS, LA (WGNO) — New Orleans police are trying to solve a pair of theft/burglary cases that put two officers’ department-issued pistols on the streets. The cases are the latest crimes featured on the Wheel of Justice.
Both crimes happened in Algiers.
The most recent case happened last Friday, August 5th, when someone stole an officer’s personal car. According to police, the officer parked the car in front of his home and when he returned to it a few minutes later, it was gone. Inside the car, police say, were the officer’s Glock .40 caliber pistol, a loaded magazine, a cartridge for a TASER, and the officer’s credentials.
The car was found the following day, but the missing gun, TASER cartridge, and other items remain missing.
The first case happened sometime between July 22-25 at the home of an officer who was on vacation.
Police say someone broke into the officer’s home and stole his Glock .40 caliber pistol, two loaded magazines, a TASER and is cartridges.
Police say the thefts represent a safety issue for the general public.
